Defense of Drug Trafficking Charges

Chicago, Illinois Drug Trafficking Defense Attorney

At the law office of Wigell & Associates, we often hear from people who are facing criminal charges far more serious than they deserve. The government does play up drug charges. Rather than simple drug possession, they'll charge intent to deliver.

If you've been charged with a serious drug crime such as drug trafficking or have weapons charges along with a drug crime, the defense lawyers at Wigell & Associates are here to protect your rights and interests. Contact our Chicago law office by e-mail or call (708) 481-4800 / (800) 582-LAWS / (800) 582-5297.

Marijuana Charges Dismissed Because of Improper Traffic Stop

Defendant charged with Possession of Cannabis with intent to deliver. Police conduct traffic stop and search car. Over one pound of cannabis and large amount of cash seized. Motion to Suppress Evidence initially denied. Motion to Reconsider filed and granted, evidence suppressed, case dismissed.

Wigell & Associates defends people on drug trafficking charges in Illinois and Indiana state courts and in federal courts nationwide.

More Victories.

With more than 30 years of defense experience in state and federal courts, our defense attorneys not only safeguard our clients' Constitutional rights, we're often called in to work with other lawyers who may not have handled a serious drug case before.

Criminal Penalties for Drug Trafficking

All drug trafficking and distribution-level drug charges are felony offenses, regardless of whether it involves marijuana, crack cocaine, cocaine, heroin, meth, or prescription drugs. Trafficking may be charged in state or federal court. We defend people in both courts.

Conviction of drug trafficking or distribution carries a minimum mandatory sentence and judges have no leeway in sentencing so it's important to avoid a conviction. Most drug charges are not won or lost on the facts but on whether law enforcement operated within constitutional boundaries when they stopped someone, searched a property or person (were they within the bounds of their warrant?), or seized property. The attorneys at Wigell & Associates are constitutional scholars so we thoroughly investigate these constitutional issues.

We've defended people on these and other drug-related charges:

  • Drug trafficking
  • Criminal drug conspiracy
  • Delivery of controlled substance
  • Drug possession with intent to deliver
  • Distribution of a controlled substance
  • Conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance
  • Weapons violations
  • Tax evasion

Don't Give Up Hope

As lawyers, we are nonjudgmental. The only things we care about are you and the law. If the police acted improperly, we file motions to suppress evidence. This has often been a successful strategy (see our criminal victories page). If we can't prevail in pre-trial motions or win an acquittal at trial, we negotiate on sentencing.

We try drug trafficking cases in state courts throughout Illinois and Indiana as well as the Northern District of Indiana and the Northern District of Illinois. As experienced drug crime defense attorneys, we have capability to defend against drug charges and other crimes nationwide.
